A Harassed Husband on his parents' harassment

"This is live ongoing happening. I am in US since last 6 months with a gap of 15 days to India. I didn't meet my wife's demand of making separate house for her and my son. She gets aggrevated and yesterday she lodged false 498A, 506, 34 and 3&4 DPT (i don't now what is this).

My Father 77 and Mother 70 are taken to police station at 8 PM Thursday for enquiry and they are arrested. They are actually in Mysore Central Jail.

Today we tried to move bail application but prosecutor has put some objection. It is difficult to imagine the condition of my parents 15000 miles away......when can we see an end to this plight and legal terrorism?"

Mrunalini Deshmukh on IPC497 (Adultery)

"The law clearly states that the woman will not be held responsible. I strongly object to that! In this age of gender equality and gender justice, why should we have such a lopsided law? Who said women don't want sex? Perhaps it would not be correct for me to say that the number has risen, but that more couples are coming out with it, Around 90% of such cases head for divorce rather than a reconciliation."

Washington Times on False Feminist Statistics

Correction
November 29, 2006

Using a chart published in a 2005 U.N. Population Fund report -- which the U.N. agency now says was misleading -- a London Daily Telegraph article published in Nov. 13 editions of The Washington Times incorrectly stated the frequency of wife abuse in India. The agency says that it does not have sufficient data to provide such a figure and that the chart was intended to show that 70 percent of Indian women who were abused by their husbands think such abuse is justified in at least some circumstances.
